Explorer: Week 1, Day 2

One by one, the students stepped out into the waters of Whale Bone bay to take their first breaths under water. The wide-eyed students plunged into the ocean with one hand over their regulator and one on their weight belts.

Wrapped up in excitement, they circled around the instructor and began their check-out dive. As the day progressed, the students learned the basics of diving, including how to maintain buoyancy, breathe underwater, use hand signals, clear their regulator and mask and equalize.

After a while, all that could be seen from the boat was 11 sets of bubbles trickling up to the surface.
